History

The Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) at Los Alamitos is home to the U.S. Army’s 63rd Regional Support Command and the California Army National Guard’s 40th Infantry Division. The JFTB Los Alamitos commissioned in 1942 as the Los Alamitos Naval Air Station (NAS). In 1973, NAS Los Alamitos was transferred to the Army and redesigned as an Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC). AFRC Los Alamitos’ status as a reserve center changed in July 2000 to that of a Joint Forces Training Base to reflect the stations ever-changing role. JFTB Los Alamitos employs over 800 military, civilian and contract personnel on a full-time basis to support training, operations and services to more than 2,000 National Guardsmen and Reservists who administer training at this location.
